VIOLETA CHOUCIÑO VEIGA
Una, grande y libre

Design, digital printing, screen printing
2023

With the aim of creating the brand, the image for my master exhibition project, the digital print “Una, grande y libre” was born. The idea comes from both wanting to create a very direct, very visual graphic for the concept of tortilla being at the very center of spanish nationalism’s symbols, and making it look so ridiculous you can’t possibly think is unironic.

The cherry on top and title, Una, grande y libre, refers to a slogan Franco and the fascists used to describe Spain -Una, one, unified country, grande, big, the spanish empire, the greatness, and libre, free, meaning that concept of freedom all forms of fascism claim to protect- forcing this time the meaning to be about tortilla by association, and making it even more exaggerated.

Later, I also developed the screen printed version.
